Staff from the Ngao Letu project provides technical support through counselling as well as logistics support through secure and economical transportation to the Rutshuru Women Leaders Synergy for Development and Peace during their pacification and conflict transformation initiatives. During 2016, Ngao Letu accompanied these Women Leaders to Bwito in the territory of Rutshuru and Luhanga in territory of Lubero, where killings, rapes and looting has caused great grief.
During these field trips, we also met with leaders of the armed groups to initiate a dialogue to put an end to the criminality that is spreading through the area. Antagonistic communities believe that frank dialogue would be one of the essential avenues for the restoration of social cohesion. In these talks, we sensitized them on international humanitarian law, the law of war, the protection of women and children during combat, and the peaceful coexistence of different ethnic groups and tribes living in the region.
