The Ngao Letu project team composed of Genderforce and COMEN staff celebrated in Rugari village, Rutshuru territory, North Kivu province the international day of rural women.
The topic for the celebration was: environment, nutrition and agriculture are in transition. The team took the opportunity to address participating local authorities, local security sector actors and women, on the importance of fully involving women in conflict resolution and management as well as in security matters that affect women and girls in rural settings. However, men must also become trained and sensitized regarding their role to support women empowerment and building effective and sustainable partnerships for security and development.
To make women’s equal participation possible in rural areas we must work on improving security for all, otherwise nothing will change!
During the celebration different activities were organized among them conversations on different sub topics and face to face meetings.
A firm resolution was taken by all participants stating that women and men should work shoulder to shoulder to address security issues affecting the communities and in the villages to prevent sexual and gender based violence.
